Recently my IMSecure and ZoneAlarm got corrupted due to accidental deletion of some important files of these software. Then I have to take the premium support facility available from Zone Labs. I wrote a mail to Zone Labs. In reply they sent me the procedure of uninstalling ZAP and IMSecure manually. I thought I should share it with you so that if you face such situation this article would help you.
Here is the procedure of uninstalling ZAP (OS: Windows XP):
[ZoneAlarm Pro version 6.1.744.00]
- Restart your computer
- When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
- This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
Enter
- If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
- Once you are at the desktop, Click Start, My Computer
- Click Tools, Folder Options, View Tab
- Place a dot next to "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
- Remove the check from "Hide Protected Operating System Files
(Recommended)"
- Choose Yes to the warning
- Click OK
- Double click C:
[Note: In the future steps if you do not see any files or folders, please click
the "Show Files" link to view them.]
- Double Click the Program Files Folder
- Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
- Close this window
- Click Start, My Computer
- Double Click the C:
- Double Click the Windows Folder (It may also be WinNT)
- Right Click the Internet Logs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
- Double Click the System32 Folder
- Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes
- Locate and delete the following files in this folder
- vsconfig.xml
- vsxml.dll
- vsregexp.dll
- vsdata.dll
- vsdata95.vxd
- vsdatant.sys
- vsmonapi.dll
- vspubapi.dll
- vsinit.dll
- vsutil.dll
- zlcommdb.dll
- zlcomm.dll
- Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.
- Go to Start → Run → Type %temp% → click OK → Select all of these files and delete them.
- Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.
- Go to Start → Run → Type Prefetch → click OK → Select all of these files and delete them.
- Remove the following registry entries by going to Start → Run and
typing in regedit. Use the folders on the left side of the window to navigate
to the specified directories.
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Zone Labs
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsmon
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsdatant
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ZoneAlarm Pro
Important Advisory: Deleting registry entries incorrectly may cause serious problems to your operating system, which may necessitate the need to reinstall it. Please make sure you are able to perform these deletions correctly before you decide to edit the entries. If you are not sure, you should seek help from someone who is familiar with editing the registry.
Also, you should always make a backup of the registry before editing it.
- Close this window, then empty your recycle bin.
- Restart the computer.
Now is the procedure of uninstalling IMSecure Pro (OS: Windows XP):
[IMSecure Pro version 1.5.0.39]
- Restart your computer
- When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep

- Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Make sure that the location box is set to search "My Computer" or all hard drives. XP users: go to Advanced Search options and be sure it is set to search ALL files and folders (several boxes to check). Type the following exactly -
IMsecure (delete all files and folders listed with "start menu" or "program
files")
- Type the following exactly - delete any files found by these names in \Windows or any subfolder below it, or in your \Temp folder):
- lockbox.dll
- imslsp.dll
- imsinstall.dll
- libbz2.dll
- pcre.dll
- You should find them at "%systemroot%\system32\".
- Clear your Temp Directory per the instructions below.
- Go to Start → Run → Type %temp% → click OK → Select all of these files and delete them.
- Clear the Prefetch folder per the instructions below.
- Go to Start → Run → Type Prefetch → click OK → Select all of these files and delete them.
- Remove the following registry entries by going to Start → Run and typing in regedit. Use the folders on the left side of the window to navigate to the specified directories.

UNINSTALL 2 for IMSecure Pro (use ONLY if you still have problems)
If you continue to have problems, please do the following:
- Be sure you can still see all hidden files, as described previously.
- Search for the file called zlimclnup.exe - this is a special uninstall program to help clean up in case the main uninstaller was unable to work properly for any reason. Double-click on this program to run it.
- REBOOT!
